The Water Room

My life has centered around Water. I swim everyday. I love the Carribean blue.
I love lakes, ponds, swimming pools, fountains and bottled water.
I love baths, showers, steam rooms, jacuzzis and the floating for hours in the Gulf of Mexico.
I love interpreting water in sequins, jello, painted plexiglass, quilting, and every art medium.
I envision the show having the viewer walk into a room underwater in a swimming pool.

Shrines to Self

On all our travels I am fascinated by Shrines.
I stop the car in any country to take pictures of roadside shrines to the Virgin Mary and various saints.
I am fascinated by the offerings and decoration of a shrine.
I love simple household shrines to flamboyant public shrines.
I am interested in developing personal shrines about myself in order to better understand my own identity.

The Travel Show

Travel is a lifelong passion and my family has had the good fortune to travel all over the world.
This show would be done collaborating with my photographer husband
and children to design a space to better understand the beauty of cultures
and how our family's core value has been shaped by these experiences.
The goal is to journey from a travelogue to the meaning behind why cultures
exist and how we are enriched by these experiences.
I have done a collection of illustrated travel journals which I want to use along with artifacts,
photography, set design, and artwork.

My Favorite Things

A few years ago I did a show called "Processing a Life" where I used collected things
to represent my life and show the uniqueness of one individual.
Now, I would like to revisit this concept and produce a body of work which represents me in the present day.
This is yet another process of looking at my identity.
This time looking at the evolution and using the art process as a metaphor.

An Idea a Day

For years I have been drawn to doing a disciplined body of work representing each day of the year.
I am curious to see what the body of work would actually look like together.

Holy, Holy, Holy

I was raised Catholic and went to parochial school most of my life.
I see myself as a spiritual person with a sense of God, but Catholicism has left me
with some unusual graphic memories. I collected and traded Holy Cards during Mass.
I would love to rewrite and design the prayer book I used everyday.
I was fascinated by the stained glass windows and painted altar of my parents church
and I was left with little details of my time in school with the nuns.

Til Death Do Us Part

I have always joked with my family that I would like to be buried in my own custom-designed sarcophogus
painted in decoration that told the story of my life and describing the things I would want to take to the afterlife.
I also have liked cemeteries and the decorations and tombstones that are used around death.
